The "pre-walk" age
Does the "pre-walk" stage last 8, 10, or 12 months? It's impossible to predict when the child will stand up.
Some children stand up quickly, whereas others spend a lot of time crawling around... Each child is different.
However, they all go through a transition phase towards walking during which they straighten up and start to move with the help of their environment: a table, a wall, the hands of mom or dad…
This phase is essential in their learning to walk because it prepares their bodies and strengthens their lower limbs.
This development takes place before our very eyes without us even noticing: the child shift his weight from one foot to another to find his balance, pushes on his lower limbs to straighten up, and swivels his ankles to move forward as he crawls...
Once the muscles and joints are ready, he will start walking.
"For the pre-walk stage, the child needs an ultra flexible shoe which protects his foot from shocks, without disturbing the undergoing strengthening of his lower limbs"
An ultra flexible shoe structure
No rigidity for a crawling shoe. The idea is to allow the strengthening work to occur unconstrained.
Therefore, our shoes in this category lack a shank, i.e. this rigid part inside the shoe which gives it its structure.
Reinforced sole to absorb friction
The friction on the front of the shoe is very important when the child crawls and drags the front of the foot on the ground. They are also important on the heel, as the child straightens and pivots on the back of the foot.
Accordingly, our shoes' soles are designed to withstand this long abrasion work.
The shoe protects the foot from shock and/or cold
The purpose of the upper of the shoe is to protect the foot from shock or cold. Natural materials are perfect (leather, virgin wool) because they are resistant and regulate temperature.
